This exhibition combines two bodies of work by Zachary Diaz. Both collections were created during the Coronavirus Pandemic and partially released online due to safety restrictions.

Letters is an intimate study of the viewer’s life experiences. In Fall of 2020, Zachary collected anonymous reflective letters from the public on an open form during his artist residency at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, SC. He gave all participants total freedom to write a letter to a person, an experience, and so on, using reflection as a form of healing. After reading the entries, he posted them online for the public to read and selected several as inspiration for the drawings and paintings you will see. This series seeks to connect viewers through a common denominator that we all share: life.
During the exhibition, all current viewers will be able to submit an anonymous letter of their own that will be used to create an on-site installation piece. The installation will be on view during the closing reception.
Cloudwalker is a physical exploration of subconscious thoughts and daydreams. With clouds as a canvas, Zachary uses symbols and figures to connect various works of art to create a narrative story throughout the entire series. Largely inspired by personal writings and poetry which will be on display, he gives viewers an intimate look into his personal life and process.
