In Keith Tolen’s Words:
“Who am I?” I like using a question to present my artwork. I hope that it will add a level of intrigue for the viewer. The goal of this show for me is to push myself to use my artistic voice in order to have a deep conversation about the ways we connect with life and people in general. I believe those connections start first within our family. So I am looking first as far back into my family that I can remember. Then, secondly, I want to look for those missing pieces of my family to investigate whether they are a valid factor in making me the individual that I am today. So Who am I?
About the Artist:
Keith Tolen is a lifelong South Carolinian who was born, raised and educated in Batesburg, SC. Tolen attended colleges at SC State in Orangeburg, SC and Francis Marion in Florence, SC, and dedicated his career to teaching art at Camden Middle School for 30 years. Keith Tolen loves art and nature, and it’s the connection between the human experience and the natural world that gives him an endless source of inspiration. His art expresses how we find our place in this relationship.
