Janet Swigler is the artist behind Quilted Impressions, on display Oct. 30th- Nov. 16th.

Janet Swigler’s process of cutting free-hand and working intuitively without the use of templates, honors the tradition of quilting and shows the versatility of the medium.  The artist has worked in this style for five years while studying with Nancy Crow, a Renwick Alliance Master of the Medium. Janet’s work is inspired by observations of daily life, reflections on nature, and personal insights that are then presented abstractly. The use of color, improvisation, and imaginative re-structuring of a simple shape are important components.

Taking Flight

November 20- December 8
Opening Reception November 21, 5-8pm

The artists of Stormwater Studios have settled into their studios and taken inspiration from their new surroundings. Earlier this year they were named a Wildlife Habitat Area by the SC Wildlife Federation and are drawing on this theme in their new show Taking Flight, which runs from November 20th– December 8th. There will be an opening reception and Open Studios on Thursday, November 21st from 5-8pm, and there will be light refreshments and a cash bar. The event is free and open to the public.

Zack Spencer: Mutilation

This exhibition features photographs by Media Arts major Zack Spencer. Spencer combines his knowledge of costume design, staging, and filmmaking to produce vivid and ridiculous works that encourage self-exploration.

Faulty Kaleidoscope

The rising artists of SVAD Photo want to position you to question…well, to question a secret about secrets, perhaps. Through multiple lenses becoming a kaleidoscope, we invite you to bear witness to a collection of images, prints on walls which offer a faulty glimpse of realities lived and lives continually realized. Paper negatives will ask you to utilize technology to reveal what you might not readily see. Photographs and other image-based media rely on you to peer beyond what surfaces can reveal.

Architectural History Meets Virtual Reality: The Digital Piranesi

You’re invited to take a virtual walk through historical works of art! Through selections from the University of South Carolina library’s vault, learn about a rare set of eighteenth-century architectural engravings—immersive interiors, crumbling ruins, and imaginary prisons. Then, through virtual reality, step inside.

Kinetic Sculpture
November 21 – 30, 2019

These kinetic sculptures are made by Prof. Naomi J. Falk’s ARTS 104 and 225 / 325 / 529 students at the School of Visual Art and Design at UofSC. They were used by Prof. Greg Stuart’s Experimental Music Workshop students during the Nov 19th performance at 701 Center for Contemporary Arts.

Natural Selections by David Yaghjian will open Friday November 1, 2019 at ifART Gallery. The show will consist of paintings and three-dimensional pieces from the last two years. IfART Gallery is located at 1223 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC.

Stormwater artists Eileen BlythHeidi Darr-Hope, and Kirkland Smith are participating with over 40 artists in different disciplines in The Supper Table, the Jasper Project’s most ambitious project to date! A SC-centric homage to the 40th anniversary of Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party, the Supper Table honors 12 women from SC history who devoted their lives to breaking barriers and improving humankind:
