The Jasper Projects presents Degenerate Art – Entartete II

The Jasper Project returns to Stormwater Studios for a second consecutive year with Degenerate Art – Entartete II, a continuation of its 2025 inaugural exhibition. On view from Wednesday, February 11, 2026, through Saturday, February 28, 2026, this expanded iteration responds to overwhelming interest from artists and patrons following the original Degenerate Art Project (July 2025). The exhibition features an extended timeline, prizes for visual art, and representation from additional artistic disciplines.
The title Degenerate Art Project is a contemporary, South Carolina–localized reflection of the Nazi Party’s 1937 Entartete Kunst (Degenerate Art) exhibition in Munich. In that historical exhibition, more than 650 works of Modernist art were deliberately displayed chaotically alongside graffiti and mocking labels, with the intention of ridiculing both the artwork and the artists. The exhibition targeted 112 artists—including Picasso, Mondrian, Chagall, Kandinsky, Klee, and Dix—many of whom are now recognized as pioneers of modern art. The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum provides a comprehensive overview of this period in history.
The purpose of the Jasper Degenerate Art Project is threefold:
- To provide a platform for expression and protest through art for artists in the Midlands
- To bring the local arts community together—both physically and in spirit—during a challenging time, fostering support and solidarity
- To preserve Columbia, South Carolina’s artistic response to our current socio-political climate through archival documentation on The Jasper Project website
