Third Thursday Book Launch – The Color After Green – Randy Spencer
August 15, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
THE COLOR AFTER GREEN
Praise for the book:
“Randy Spencer has a keen eye for the natural world and he
possesses the vivid language that allows his readers to share
in seeing the world anew. The Color After Green is a
book I greatly admire.”
–Ron Rash
“In poem after gorgeous poem Randy Spencer reminds us
of the catastrophe human carelessness is on the brink
of producing. The power of [his] language simultaneously
to delight and frighten is at its peak in this collection.”
–Susan Ludvigson
“Randy Spencer’s The Color After Green brims with the
‘dimpled symmetries’ of human expression and the
dynamic, surprising landscapes from which the poet takes a
lifetime of soundings. These intelligent, compelling
poems sing of a living engagement with the natural
world. This book is beautiful and important.”
–Tara Powell
Randy Spencer, physician, artist, and poet, was born and
grew up in coastal Virginia, much of those years in the family
home on the James River. For the last forty-plus years he has lived
in central South Carolina, the last thirty of which on a quiet cove
on Lake Murray. Poetry in this collection touches on the many
connections of the writer to the Southeast coast and to his life on
Lake Murray. They reflect on the beauty and complexity of
nature, and reveal some of Man’s foolish, often selfish, attitudes and
behaviors that place all of it at risk. Previous publications include The
Failure of Magic and What the Body Knows.
