Longing for Home by Marian Hornsby
October 1, 2025 - October 5, 2025

On exhibit at Stormwater Studios from Wednesday, October 1 through Sunday, October 5 is Longing for Home by Marian Hornsby. Home is more than an address, a sturdy brick house, or a dining room table with chairs all around. We create home from the scraps and remnants of life in a futile attempt to recreate our true home. As writer Mark Winter reflects, it is “a longing for something we’ve never fully known, yet somehow remember. This is the longing for Eden.”
Through her impressionist paintings, Hornsby captures this search for belonging. Her works are snapshots of treasured objects and natural beauty—images that temporarily satisfy our longing, lifting us into a place we can almost remember. As C.S. Lewis reminds us, “Nothing fully satisfies because we are wired for Eden, programmed to walk with God.”
Marian Hornsby is a modern impressionist painter known for her bold color and expressive brushwork in florals, still lifes, and landscapes. With a B.A. in Fine Art and an M.F.A. in Art Education, she taught art for more than 30 years while painting quietly in her studio, taking classes and workshops including plein-air painting with William Jameson and Karen Hagen in the south of France. Since retiring from teaching, Hornsby now paints full time and shares her work through The Christenberry Collection and local galleries.
“I am so pleased to have my work accepted for an exhibit at Stormwater Studios. It is an honor to have my work shown where so many talented artists have exhibited and to be surrounded by the studios where elite artists create,” she notes.
Meet the artist during her opening reception on Thursday, October 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. Stormwater Studios is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 413 Pendleton Street in Columbia’s Congaree Vista District.
