Closing Celebration of Patrick Parise’s Solo Exhibition

A Few Thoughts

Saturday, October 29; 5:30-8:30pm

Even the best things come to an end. So please, join us as we clebrate the closing of Partick Parise’s stunning exhibition A Few Thoughts!

Over 45 years of making art, Patrick Parise has realized many works started with a single visual “thought.”  Whether of a landscape, real or imagined, an abstract form, or a three-dimensional shape, that single thought inspires what is to come. Then the hard part – building upon that very thought, executing the component parts, and transforming them into a piece of work that satisfies the artist’s vision.

This show represents some of Parise’s thoughts over the past few years; ruminations about nature and beauty, love and sorrow, war and peace, and Covid (of course), transformed into works he hopes will be pleasing to view and spur the viewer’s thoughts.

About the Artist:

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1952, Patrick Parise has lived in Columbia, South Carolina for over 50 years. In his youth Parise’s artistic endeavors were much influenced by his mother, a painter and art historian. Parise’s formal training began at Bethany College, a school of fine arts in Salina, Kansas, where he studied painting under Raymond Kaymeyer, and continued at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where he became interested in printmaking under the tutelage of the art department’s distinguished professor, Boyd Saunders. After finishing his studio art courses at the university, rather than pursuing graduate studies, Parise purchased a Charles Brandt etching press and opened his own etching studio where he started making original prints. From there, Parise expanded his pursuits to include working in oils, acrylics, mixed media, collages, and sculpture. He also creates custom inlaid floors with exotic woods and stone for private residences.

Numerous accomplishments include inclusion to Artfields Art Competion in Lake City, SC, six consecutive years. Parise was also selected, among international artists, as the monthly winner of “Your Studio Competition,” Saatchi Gallery, London, England. Solo shows in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios in Columbia, SC, as well at City Art Gallery, Columbia SC in 2011 and 2015. Parise was chosen to provide 150 etchings depicting South Carolina for gifts to foreign dignitaries presented by the S.C. State Development Board. He created seventy-one etchings for a twenty-five-room guesthouse at Houndslake Country Club in Aiken, South Carolina. Parise’s work was selected to be awarded by the South Carolina Joint Legislative Committee on Cultural Affairs to fourteen South Carolina businesses recognized for their contributions to and support of the arts in South Carolina. His participation in the “Palmetto Tree Project” with the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties of South Carolina brought the second-highest purchase price at auction by Sotheby’s. He was also commissioned to design and create twenty-four 7-foot-tall mahogany and brass candelabras for Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC.
