Architectural History Meets Virtual Reality: The Digital Piranesi

November 14, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursday, November 14, 2019
6:00 – 8:00 PM

You’re invited to take a virtual walk through historical works of art! Through selections from the University of South Carolina library’s vault, learn about a rare set of eighteenth-century architectural engravings—immersive interiors, crumbling ruins, and imaginary prisons. Then, through virtual reality, step inside.

The Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at UofSC owns a complete set of Giovanni Piranesi’s works. These works are the foundation for a NEH-funded digital project (digitalpiranesi.org) and a developing virtual reality experience.

The Digital Piranesi has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, an ASPIRE grant from the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Center for Digital Humanities, the Irvin Department, and the Magellan Scholars Program.
