Introducing Weathering The Storm at Stormwater Studios

Stormwater Studios is thrilled to introduce Weathering The Storm, a new monthly event designed to foster safety, understanding, and unity within our community.

We’ve heard from the community about their desire to connect with others and make a difference. Weathering The Storm provides a platform to address these needs, bringing together individuals and organizations to share resources, inspire action, and strengthen our collective impact.

Each event will feature discussions with inspiring organizations such as the Harriet Hancock Center, Palmetto Luna Arts, and the ACLU, offering valuable information, resources, and encouragement. Additional resources, including informational materials and sign-up opportunities, will be available to help everyone stay connected and informed.

Join us for our first event on Thursday, February 20, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Harriet Hancock Center. Learn about the resources they provide, the advocacy they are engaging in this year, and how you can volunteer your time to help the organization. The discussion will start at 5:30 p.m. Let’s work together to build connections, provide support, and strengthen the fabric of our local community.

The Harriet Hancock LGBT Center, established in 1993 by the Gay and Lesbian Pride Movement, is South Carolina’s first LGBTQ+ resource and community center, located at 1108 Woodrow Street in Columbia. Renamed after its founder in 2005, the Center offers peer-led programming, social events, and educational opportunities to support and connect the LGBTQ+ community. Signature programs include Youth OUTLOUD, Queer Collective, Queer Prom, and monthly events like the First Sunday Potluck. Open to all, the Center provides a welcoming space for relaxation, study, and community building. Guided by its mission to educate, support, and provide resources for LGBTQAI+ individuals and allies, the Harriet Hancock Center fosters resilience and collaboration across the Midlands. Its operations are overseen by the Harriet Hancock Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 1987.
